Where is God in my anxiety and depression?

It is pretty hard to understand who you are and what is your true purpose when living in a society where money and consumerism reign. It is also known how our society’s game has successfully managed to keep us as far as possible from The Truth - we no longer want to follow our inner desires, but whatever is 'right' and accepted by the world. No wonder we strayed so much from reality and our younger generation is fighting the greatest era of depression in the last century.

According to World Health Organization's demographics for this year, around 300 million people worldwide suffer from depression and nearly 50% of all people that have been diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with anxiety or other mental disorders; most alarming is that these rates are increasing by each year and nobody does much about it. I am asking myself then, "Why is it that the more we have, the emptier we feel, the more we travel the more we get lost, the more we try to integrate in society, the further we are from ourselves?"

If it is to judge by how advanced these days' technology is and the infinite amount of information and connection that the internet provides, it just doesn't make sense why so many people worldwide are falling into depression, anxiety, and even have suicidal thoughts day by day. Another statistic made by the Suicide Awareness Society, has shown that nearly 800,000 people in the world die by suicide each year, which is roughly one death every 40 seconds. Suicide is the second leading cause to death in the world for those aged 15-29 years. That being said, depression is the leading cause of emotional disability worldwide. This just doesn’t sound right! We’re having a world-wide holocaust each year, and this is only caused by depression.

Now, pause and read that again...

"We're having a world-wide Holocaust each year, and more people die due to depression each year than they die during wars."

I am aware that millions of people have already tackled this topic, and it doesn’t surprise me how so many drug companies appeared like mushrooms over-night, and self-development coaches have become millionaires just by writing some books and occasionally teaching information and techniques on how to achieve a better, happier and more balanced life. The truth is that, in spite of all natural and artificial remedies promoted these days, depression rates are still just continuing to skyrocket day by day no matter how many books we read or anti-depressants we take. Don’t get me wrong though, I have nothing against mental drugs nor anyone who coaches self-development but, most of the times, I realised that GOD is excluded from the entire conversation.

How can this be when in fact, everything is about GOD?

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." - John 14:27

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30

“And again, Jesus said: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." - John 10:10

What did Jesus mean by 'life...to the full'?

I really meditated on this verse, and came to realise that the world will give us endless short-term solutions that cost us time, effort, money, our mental or physical health and even our own soul, but GOD is giving us the permanent solution and more than that - it is totally free of charge because...

...Jesus has paid it all so "we may have life, and have it abundantly".
